Library Mission Statement
The Mission of the library at the Mississippi Gulf Coast community College is to provide instructional support services that reinforce the curriculum of the college. We accomplish this by providing a well-trained staff, excellent resources and accessible facilities. We both encourage and assist students to use the resources of our library to meet their personal needs and educational goals.
Library Collections...
The Jefferson Davis Campus library collection is housed in a comfortable, large, and well-lit facility providing access to a reference and general collection of nearly 40,000 books. In addition, the library has an automated Sirsi system that provides immediate linking to the holdings of all three Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Campuses, a periodical collection of approximately 275 titles, and a McNaughton Collection of 600 popular books. With advanced electronic access provided by the state of Mississippi's funded Magnolia Project and the Internet, the library provides the latest in computers and databases to allow access to information for research purposes. Inside the library are special study rooms for small groups and a number of carrels for individual study.
GENERAL COLLECTION
Any current MGCC student or employee may check out books at the Jefferson Davis Campus Library. Also, any currently enrolled USM Gulf Park or Keesler Air Force Base students may check out JD Library books. Books are checked our for a three week period, and may be renewed if not on hold. If books are not returned by semester end, borrowers will be blocked from further library use pending return of materials or payment of replacement costs.
REFERENCE BOOKS AND RESERVES
Reference books and reserves do not circulate outside the library. The reserve collection is located behind the circulation desk. To be placed on reserve, materials must meet the following criteria:
- They are required or optional reading for one or more courses currently being taught.
- They are not available in quantity
A reserve form, available at the circulation desk, must be filled out and given to a librarian. Faculty should emphasize to students that, unless otherwise arranged, reserves are intended to guarantee equal access by all and so are limited to in-library use only.
Online access to the MGCCC's library Catalogue is available via WebCat.
