The Reflections Team at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus will host the Walters Family 5K race on Saturday, April 18, to help raise funds to assist with current and future medical bills for Brooks Walters. Check-in is set for 8 a.m. at the Bell Tower on the Perkinston Campus, with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Brooks, the son of Jonathan and Gabrielle (Johnson) Walters of Purvis, was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker Syndrome at birth, but doctors now believe it could be Walker-Warburg Syndrome.  Gabrielle, originally from Wiggins, is an MGCCC alumna and former Perkinston Campus Reflections Team member.

“The Reflections Team is excited about an opportunity to reach out into the community and help a family in need,” said Ana-Claire Graham, president of the Perkinston Campus team. “This is the first time we have planned a community event of this magnitude, and we are more than anxious to help this family. Gabrielle has affected my life in a positive way, and to have this opportunity to give back to her and her family is an honor for all of us.”

To register, complete the form and mail or deliver it, along with a cash payment of $20 (additional donations are also accepted) to Reba Ragan at the campus Admissions Office.  Those who register will have their names entered for a chance to win a gift basket and will also receive a T-shirt upon completion of the race.  Deadline to register is 5 p.m. on April 10.
