INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College reserves the right to determine the number of international applicants admitted. International Students MUST meet all of the following admissions requirements at least six weeks prior to enrollment (November 1 for spring semester or July 1 for fall semester)

  1. Complete a Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College application for admission.
  2. Provide the completed Certificate of Immunization against measles, mumps and Rubella. Additionally, the State of Mississippi requires all new foreign applicants to be screened for tuberculosis by the local Public Health Department.
  3. If English is not the native language of the applicant, a score of at least 525 on the paper-based test is required on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) 195 on computer based test. This requirement may be waived for foreign applicants who transfer from a regionally accredited university/college within the United States and have completed English Composition I and II with a grade of “C” or better in each course. (It is recommended that the applicant take the Test of Written English portion of the TOEFL.) This requirement may also be waived for foreign students who have enrolled in a U.S. college/university English Language Institute, English as a Second Language program, or Intensive English program designed for non-native born students and who achieve proficiency/ fluency in English. A letter of recommendation is required from the college/ university program director indicating the student has achieved “proficiency satisfactory to enroll in and successfully complete college work and is able to converse and communicate intelligibly and effectively”.
  4. Provide high school and/or college transcripts with English translation and evaluation of that course work. The translation MUST be received by the college prior to the six-week admissions deadline. Applicants transferring from a regionally accredited university/college within the United States who have completed 12 or more semester hours of college level work are required to submit only their United States transcripts.
  5. Applicants seeking admission after completing secondary school in their home country must have a credit evaluation prior to enrolling or must satisfactorily pass the G.E.D. (General Education Development) test. Applicants with course-work from a foreign university/college must obtain a course-by-course evaluation. This process will take four to six weeks and the evaluation MUST be received by the college prior to the six-week admissions deadline. Below are the agencies that have been approved to evaluate applicant transcripts. *
  6. Provide a notarized Affidavit of Support from a bank indicating available American funds sufficient for tuition, transportation, and room and board for at least the first year of the student’s enrollment ($10,900.00).
  7. To secure housing, complete the Housing Application and submit a $25 deposit to the housing office. Dormitories are available on the Perkinston campus on a first come first serve basis. Please note that dormitories are closed during college scheduled breaks and holidays. Students will not be allowed to remain in the dormitories during these times. All dormitory students must make their own housing arrangements for scheduled breaks and holidays.
  8. Prior to registration, applicants must schedule a personal interview with the Admissions Director and selected instructors for the purpose of determining the student’s ability to perform in the chosen field of study.
  9. Participate in an orientation session prior to registration.

Requirements number 1 through 6 must be submitted six weeks prior to the beginning of classes for the semester in which enrollment is requested.
