MGCCC Department Home Page Guidelines
The MGCCC Web site is an official publication of MGCCC.
All pages, including department home pages, are also official publications
of the college. Therefore, these pages should promote and represent the
college, its programs and its employees in a professional, informative
and positive light. They are also required to carry out official college
business in support of the college mission. This procedure sets minimum
standards for all departments to follow when developing a department home
page.
The following guidelines will change as technology and the
college change. Although the Web site, including department home pages, are
guided by the Institutional Relations office, it is the responsibility of all
MGCCC employees to ensure that the site promotes a quality image of MGCCC and
that all Web page guidelines are followed.
Guidelines
The following guidelines must be followed before an MGCCC department
home page can reside on the college server.
- TRAINING
All persons creating department home pages must have completed
the college's Internet training and be familiar withthe college's Internet
Acceptable Use Policy statement and completed the Request
for Official Department/Program Home Page standardized form.
- SUBMISSION & APPROVAL
The Webmaster must approve all home pages.
- REQUIRED INFORMATION
Links
- OFFICIAL ELEMENTS
Logo
- The college logo is REQUIRED to be on the introductory page of all
department and program home pages.
Individuals may also opt to include the logo on ALL pages of their site.
The logo can be copied from the official site, or the designer can use
<IMG
SRC="http://www.mgccc.edu/logo22.gif">
within his or her HTML document.
- All information on department pages must be active. No "under
construction" information, links or icons will be accepted.
- Keep sites relatively small. Three or four pages are an acceptable
minimum. If there is any concern about the overall size of the site, the
Webmaster will contact the page's creator.
- Copyright laws apply to electronic publishing, as well as print
publishing. MGCCC Web page creators must have permission to publish text,
photographs or graphics if they are not the creator or author. Always get an
official MGCCC Model Release Form signed by people you use in your site's
photographs. These forms are available through the Institutional Relations
office.
- Links to such sites as personal businesses and other sites not dealing
with the department's area are PROHIBITED. Home pages residing on the MGCCC
server will not promote or advertise any commercial ventures. If a
department or program wants to add a company logo and/or link to its page,
that company MUST be a partner or co-sponsor with the college or the
program. Again, this is for educational purposes only and must be beneficial
to MGCCC students.
- Information about admissions, financial aid, scholarships and other
general college areas is available on the college's site, as are the
Application for Admission and the Information Request Card. Since this
information is currently part of the site's core pages, department
Web page creators should not duplicate this information. Instead, creators
should add links to these areas on their respective pages.
Web
Page Management
- The Institutional Relations office is responsible for developing and
maintaining the MGCCC site and its core pages, including class schedules,
general college information and other areas. Institutional Relations will
manage the organization, procedures and appearance of the MGCCC site,
including all pages directly linked from the introductory page, and though
indirectly, all other official MGCCC pages.
- Once department pages are approved, the Webmaster will create links to
the pages from the MGCCC site and its core pages.
- The college reserves the right to remove any information or links to
information published through the campus network that violate the guidelines
set forth through this procedure.
- Departments that create their own pages are responsible for creating
and maintaining their respective pages. Page creators will keep all
information current, and pages must be reviewed and updated at least once
each semester. The Webmaster will review all department pages periodically,
ensuring that information is current and that the pages are following the
guidelines as stated in this document. Any departments that are not
in compliance with the above criteria will be at risk of having their sites
disabled until such time as they are able to properly update their site.
