Aid Programs
The Mississippi State Student Financial Aid Office
offers grants and scholarships to students who are Mississippi residents.
Some of the more popular programs and general eligibility requirements
are listed below. The student must apply directly to the state office
(except for the LEAP program).

Mississippi Resident
Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG)
This grant is available to the student who:
- Has not earned a first associate or bachelors
degree
- Is a legal resident of Mississippi
- Is enrolled full-time at an eligible Mississippi
college or university
- Does not have “full” Pell Grant eligibility
The application deadline is September 15.
The maximum award at a community college is $500 per school year for a
maximum of 4 semesters. The student must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and
full-time enrollment each semester to continue eligibility. The student
must also renew an application each school year.
Mississippi Eminent
Scholars Grant (MESG)
This grant is available to the student who:
- Is a first-time freshman student
- Applies for the MESG as a senior in high school
- Is a legal resident of Mississippi
- Is enrolled full-time at an eligible Mississippi
college or university
The application deadline is September 15.
The maximum award is $2500 per school year, not to exceed tuition and
mandatory fees, for a maximum of 4 semesters. The student must maintain
a minimum 3.5 GPA (per year) and maintain full-time enrollment to continue
eligibility. The student must also renew an application each school year.
Leveraging Educational
Assistance Partnership (LEAP)
This grant is available to the student who:
- Is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Is a Mississippi resident
- Is eligible to receive a Pell Grant and has exceptional
need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Is enrolled as a regular full-time student at
a Mississippi college or university
The priority deadline is June 1;
financial aid applications received by this date will be given priority.
There is no additional application form. Awards range between $100
and $500 a year, depending on the student’s level of need and the
availability of funds. |
