Tis’
the season for signees

Although the 2004-2005 sports season is months away for most of
the college’s student athletes, the groundwork for next season
is being laid now by the coaches. Since mid-May, the college’s
coaching staffs have been hard at work recruiting recent high-school
grads to Gulf Coast.
In the last eight weeks, 35 players have signed with the college
in seven different sports. For spring coaches like fast-pitch softball
coach Kenneth Long, there is no time to ponder the season that just
ended.
“It’s really like two seasons - the regular schedule
and then the recruiting season. Our fast-pitch season ended just
two weeks before all the high-school graduations. So it was a pretty
quick turn-around from planning our playoff roster to planning next
season’s pitching rotation,” Long says.
