Community
colleges deliver concerns to the Capitol
With white canvas mail sacks flung
over their shoulders, more than 100 community college faculty
members and students went to the Capitol on Feb. 22 to deliver
their concerns to state leaders. Each sack carried letters
telling state leaders about the vital role community colleges
fill in the state and asked for equity in the state’s
education budget.

Women’s
Technology Conference draws record crowd
It started four years ago with less
than 30 students and has grown, just like the tech field,
by quantum leaps. More than 250 female high school students
poured into the college’s Women’s Conference on
Information Technology on Feb. 24 at the Jefferson Davis Campus.

honors Willis Lott with national award
The international academic honor society
for community colleges, Phi Theta Kappa, is honoring Gulf
Coast President Dr. Willis Lott at its annual convention on
April 15. Lott is being presented the Shirley B. Gordon Award
of Distinction, which recognizes college executive officers
who make outstanding efforts promoting PTK.
