bring home the hardware
Gulf Coast students are bringing home the hardware in the form
of medals, plaques and trophies from professional development competitions
from around the state. So far, 14 students have won top state-wide
honors and will move on to compete nationally. This issue will focus
on the accomplishments of Phi Beta Lambda, Delta Epsilon Chi and
HOSA.
Phi Beta Lambda lands three in nationals
Eight Gulf Coast students took top business honors in March at
the annual Phi Beta Lambda state conference in Fulton, Miss. Students
from all three of the college’s campuses, along with the George
County Center, earned awards for projects ranging from accounting
to community service.
Three students - Ebby Wilson, Jenah James and Traci Smith - will
now move on to represent the college at the PBL National Leadership
Conference in Denver, July 9-12. Smith will compete in accounting,
while the team of Wilson and James will present a summary about
their chapter’s community-service project called Read to Succeed.
The service project encouraged fellow students and college employees
to donate new or used books to the Stone County Library. The Perkinston
Campus chapter chose the Stone County Library because of the recent
population growth in the area. Over the course of two weeks, more
than 670 books were donated to the drive.

Delta Epsilon Chi claims five first-place awards
Gulf Coast marketing students attended Delta Epsilon Chi’s International
Conference April 13-18 after taking top honors at the state conference
in March. Twenty-six Gulf Coast students, representing the Jackson
County and Jefferson Davis campuses, earned two dozen state-wide
awards, ranging from E-commerce to Entrepreneurship.
From those winners, 11 students advanced to Nashville, Tenn., to
compete against college students from around the world. Delta Epsilon
Chi is a professional organization for college students majoring
in marketing. The International Conference was attended by more
