Gulf Coast golf team sixth in season-opening tournament

The Gulf Coast Bulldog golf team finished sixth in the 2005 Hoyt Carlisle Golf Tournament played Oct. 3-4 on the 7400-yard FarmLinks Golf Club in Sylacauga, Ala. 

Darton College (Georgia), theo 2005 national champions, won the 13-team event by 33 shots with a 14-under 850 team total.  Host Central Alabama Community College (883) finished second, followed by Brevard (892), Faulkner State (893), Meridian (906), Gulf Coast (915), Wallace State (932), Northwest Shoals (938), Huntingdon ( 941), CACC Blue Team (945), ABAC (952), Andrew College (966) and Faulkner University (981). 

Cory Cooper led the Bulldogs with rounds of 70-75-77—224 to tie for 17th in the individual race, while Jake Kuharich (76-74-78—228), Kevin Lyday (74-78-79—231), C.T. White (79-80-73—232) and Drew Goff (80-81-80—241) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs. 

Darton’s Brent Witcher won medalist honors by nine shots, firing rounds of 65-69-67—201.  Gulf Coast will travel to the Fighting Joe Golf Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala., to play in the Fall Northwest Shoals Invitational Oct. 23-25.
