Baseball All-Star Matt Lawton donates $10,000

The world of baseball has been good to Matt Lawton, who graduated from MGCCC’s Perkinston Campus in 1991, and in return, Lawton has been good to others. In spring 2004, the Saucier native donated $10,000 to the college’s baseball team.

MGCCC Bulldogs fight hard in Campbell’s season debut

First year Gulf Coast head coach Steve Campbell knew the 2004 season opener against Mississippi Delta would be a challenge. That turned out to be the case as the Trojans spoiled the Bulldog season opener with a 28-0 victory on Sept. 2 at the Perkinston Campus. It was Gulf Coast’s first season opening loss since 2000.

Bulldog tennis program welcomes new coach

Gulf Coast welcomes a new Bulldog to the tennis court this season. Gary Bourgeois was hired in August to coach both the men’s and women’s teams. Bourgeois, who attended USM on a football scholarship, is a South Mississippi native who has coached tennis around the world. He has served as the Director of Tennis at European Training Center in Italy and for the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academies in California and Austria.
