MGCCC offers K-12 teacher licensure classes

Teachers, learn something new this summer! The Workforce, Economic and Community Development program at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is offering a variety of K-12 teacher CEU opportunities for teacher license renewal this summer at both the Jackson County Campus and at the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center in Gulfport.

MS PowerPoint for Lesson Plans is a 10-hour seminar offered at the Jackson County Campus that includes PowerPoint basics such as presentation skills, formatting and editing text, graphic image, and tables. Other areas will be covered, including using the slide master, and working with drawing objects, tables, charts, slide transitions, animation, and other advanced features for creating a custom teaching tool. Class will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3-4, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Class offers 1.0 CEUs.) For more information or to register, call (228) 497-7856.

Command Spanish for Teachers is a 10-hour seminar that will be offered June 9-13, Monday through Friday, 9– 11 a.m., at the Jackson County Campus. Participants will learn the basics of common Spanish words, phrases and pronunciation used in the classroom. Book included. (Class offers 1.0 CEUs.) A six-hour Digital Toolbox for Teachers will be offered at the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center in Gulfport on Monday, June 2, from 8:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m. The workshop will cover the basics of using digital photography with the free software Photostory, which can be used in any academic field and can be geared for any age group. Teachers will develop a photo story and written scripts or explanations relating to classroom lessons. Also, teachers will learn to create subject-specific crossword and jigsaw puzzles using free computer software. (Class offers 0.6 CEUs.) For more information or to register, call (601) 928-6215.

Multimedia Lesson Plans using Windows Media Encoder and Wink is a six-hour workshop dealing with the use of the free software Windows Media Encoder to convert live and pre-recorded audio, video and computer screen images for classroom use. Also included is the application of Wink, a tutorial and presentation creation software that can be used as an enrichment and remediation tool. This process allows teachers to pre-record timely material for the use of a substitute teacher. Class will be held on Friday, June 6, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center in Gulfport. (Class offers 0.6 CEUs.) GO – Getting Organized for Teachers and Administrators is a six- hour seminar that will be offered Thursday, June 5, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center in Gulfport. Participants are encouraged to bring their inbox or “things to do” pile to learn how to get organized once and for all. The GO System is filled with simple, powerful and practical ideas to address six major issues that cause chaos and disorganization. In this workshop, specifically designed for teachers and administrators, participants will receive hands-on, expert guidance from A New Leaf Professional Organizer. (Class offers 0.6 CEUs.) A six-hour Crayola Workshop for K-6 Teachers will be offered at the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center in Gulfport on Tuesday, June 10, from 8:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m. The workshop will explore the arts integration through lecture, demonstrations and hands-on lessons, with a special emphasis on the visual arts in reading, math, science and social studies. Ideas and the latest products used in Crayola’s Dream-Makers Lesson Guide will be showcased. Participants will create and leave with a variety of arts-integrated ideas and lessons based on the Mississippi Framework and Benchmarks. (Class offers 0.6 CEUs.)
