Student Orientation to Online Learning

The following orientation sessions have been provided for students who are intersted in learning more about online courses. Answers to commonly asked questions and directions for getting started with online courses will be provided. These sessions are voluntary, but highly recommended for students who are new to taking online courses.

About the Virtual Orientations:

If you are interested in getting more information about online classes, but cannot make it to one of the campus sessions, you may want to take part in a virtual orientation session.

The virtual sessions will be held inside the Desire2Learn learning management system and will be conducted using Wimba's Live Classroom (similar to instant messaging with video and voice). A facilitator will be present at the times listed above to answer questions and moderate the sessions. Use the steps listed below to access the session you are interested in attending. Please login ten minutes early to get setup prior to the scheduled orientation session.

  1. Go to the distance learning home page at http://www.mgccc.edu/distance_learning
  2. On the left, under Current Students, click Login to Online Courses
  3. Click Desire2Learn
  4. Enter vstudent1234 for the username
  5. Enter vstudent1234 for the password
  6. Click Login
  7. Locate the Colleges box in the middle of the page and click Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
  8. Scroll down and locate the My Courses box
  9. Click D2L Virtual Tour
  10. On the gray navigation bar at the top, click Content
  11. Click Online Orientation
  12. Click Setup Wizard to run the Wimba Setup Wizard
  13. Click Wimba Instructions to download the instructions for participating in the orientation
  14. Click Enter the Live Classroom to participate in the virtual orientation
