Sam Owen Award

Millie Page
Sam Owen Award

The Sam Owen Award is an honor bestowed since 1956 to a community member who has actively supported the college and its ongoing mission to make a positive difference.

Mildred “Millie” Page has been a strong supporter of MGCCC for many years, not only working at the college as an instructor and in an administrative capacity, but also as a Foundation Board member, a college Board of Trustees member, and generous donor to student scholarships.

Page began working at the Perkinston Campus in 1975 as a teacher of Reading and English. She soon after moved to the Harrison County Campus, where she taught for several years before being appointed assistant dean for the Learning Resources Center and Learning Laboratory director. She retired on June 30, 1991.

Soon after her retirement from the college, Page became a member of the MGCCC Foundation Board of Directors and has remained on the board since. In 2007, she was appointed to the MGCCC Board of Trustees from Harrison County. She stayed on until June 2013 when she moved to Jackson County and left the board temporarily. She was reappointed in May 2019 to fill a Jackson County seat.
