Four Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College art students won five major awards at the Mississippi Community/Junior College Art Instructors Association statewide art competition held in March.

“I’m very proud of our students, and the fact that their talents can be recognized at the state level,” said Marc Poole, 2-D Fine Arts instructor at the Jackson County Campus, “We are fortunate that we can attract those students driven for success. It assures me that we are succeeding in our roles as instructors to prepare them for the next level when they move on to four-year institutions.”

The winners, all from the Jackson County Campus, include the following:

Graphic Design

First Place

James Lewis, Adobe Illustrator typographic portrait “Woodrow Wilson”

Second Place

Joshua Edgar, Adobe Photoshop digital image “Neverender”

2-D Design

The competition is open annually to the state’s community and junior colleges, with hundreds of student works of art submitted each year. The number of entries allowed for each school is based on the enrollment numbers for art classes per campus. This year, the Jackson County Campus was allowed to submit eight 2-D entries and six 3-D entries, and 12 entries were sent in total.
