The Jefferson Davis Players at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Campus will present “33 Variations” by Moises Kaufman Oct. 9-12 in the campus Fine Arts Auditorium. Curtain will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 9-11 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 12.

About the Play “33 Variations”

This drama, inspired by Ludwig Van Beethoven’s eponymous work, simultaneously examines the creative process behind Beethoven’s “Diabelli Variations” and the journey of a music scholar, Dr. Katherine Brandt, to discover why Beethoven was compelled to write the 33 distinct variations. The progression of her ALS is a theme that mirrors Beethoven’s growing deafness as the action switches back and forth between Beethoven’s time in Austria and present-day New York. To further stress the parallels in their lives, characters from both time periods often appear on stage to deliver lines simultaneously.
