Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Players will present “God of Carnage” by Yasmina Reza on February 17-21 in the Jefferson Davis Campus Arena Theatre. Curtain times are 8 p.m. February 17-20 and 2 p.m. on February 21.

About “God of Carnage”

The play, translated by Christopher Hampton, begins with a playground altercation between 11-year-old boys. Two sets of Brooklyn parents meet to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tension emerges and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.

Winner of the 2009 Tony Award, the New York Times states that this powerful and brilliant play “…delivers the cathartic release of watching other people’s marriages go boom. A study in the tension between civilized surface and savage instinct, this play is itself a satisfyingly primitive entertainment.”
