Jefferson Davis Players to present “Godspell”

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Players will present “Godspell 2012 Revival” on April 10-13 at the Jefferson Davis Campus Arena Theatre.  Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. on April 10-12 with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on April 12-13.

In this comedy by Stephen Schwartz, a small group of people helps Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville is employed as the story of Jesus’s life dances across the Arena stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’s messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life.

The cast includes Brandon Scarpone as Jesus; James Rojas as John the Baptist and Judas; and an ensemble that includes Amanda Ivie, Jessica Flores, Ryan Pierini, Nicholette Salinas, Ian Phillips, Hadley Hill, Michael Holesha and Jesse Byrd.  Technical staff are Ryan Pierini, director; Kenny Yocom, scene shop foreman; Ariel McClendon, stage manager; Summerlin LaCour and Mckaylah Donaldson, assistant stage managers;  Erica Ritter, costume design; Chris Smith, light board operator; and Aaron Davenport, sound board operator.

Ticket prics are $10 general admission and $5 for students.  For more information or reservations, call 228.897.3931.
