Collections

The Jackson County Campus Library collection is housed in a comfortable, large, and well-lighted facility providing access to reference and general collections of approximately 43,673 books; 83,332 e-books; 94 non-circulating periodicals; and 4,083 audiovisual materials (including the Popular Videos). In addition, the library has an online catalog system, Sirsi, that provides immediate linking to the holdings of all three MGCCC campuses; the Mississippi state funded Magnolia Project (journal databases); and an Internet accessible computer network of 27 computers that allow the JC library to provide a variety of computer databases for research purposes. The library offers interlibrary loan services to retrieve items from the other two campus libraries and other state and national libraries.

General Collections

Current MGCCC students or employees may check out materials at the Jackson County Campus Library. Any currently enrolled USM Gulf Park or Keesler Air Force Base student may check out JC Library books. Community members are also welcome to check out books from the library collection. Please contact the library at (228) 497-7830 for additional information. Books are checked out for a three week period, and may be renewed once if not on hold. If books are not returned by the semester’s end, borrowers will be blocked from further library use pending return of materials or payment of replacement costs.

Reference Books and Reserves

Reference books and reserves do not circulate outside the library. The reserve collection is located at the information desk. Reserve materials meet the following criteria:
  • The material is required or optional reading for one or more courses currently being taught.
  • The material is not available in quantity.
To place an item on reserve, a reserve form, available at the information desk, must be filled out and given to a librarian. Faculty should emphasize to students that, unless otherwise arranged, reserves are intended to guarantee equal access by all and are so limited to in-library use only
