Three MGCCC instructors have been chosen 2014 Humanities Teachers of the Year. Each honoree will receive a cash prize from the Mississippi Humanities Council.

During the months of October and November, each instructor will make presentations as part of their award recognition. Honorees are:

Jordan Sanderson, Jackson County Campus

Sanderson’s presentation, “Make It New: Connecting Students to Literature in the Age of Twitter,” will be held on October 21, at 12:30 p.m. in Warner Peterson Administration building lecture hall on the Jackson County Campus.

Tommy Snell, Perkinston Campus

Snell’s presentation, “Shakespeare and Popcorn: A Renaissance of Symbols and Character in the Concessions Stand,” will be held on November 11, at 12:30 p.m. in Denson Hall, Room 102, on the Perkinston Campus.

Candice Poulos, Jefferson Davis Campus

Poulos’ presentation, “Mind Shift: Reframing for Improved Mental Health,” will be held on November 13, at 12:30 p.m. in the Learning Resources Building, Room G121, on the Jefferson Davis Campus.

October is Arts and Humanities Month, proclaimed by the president and governor. MHC selects honorees annually from each of Mississippi’s colleges anduniversities in the fields of English, history, music, art and philosophy.
