A Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College student designed the new logo for the George County Chamber of Commerce. The logo can be seen on the sign in front of the chamber building on Beaver Dam Road in Lucedale.

Chamber President Cheryl Balius, who is also assistant dean at MGCCC’s George County Center, contacted Graphic Design instructor Jeff Jones at the Perkinston Campus to request help with the logo design. “When Cheryl contacted me about a student to design the logo, I immediately asked Alyssa to handle the project,” Jones said. “Alyssa is a graduate of our program and is the student worker in our section. She is an outstanding designer and has worked on many projects and consistently does an excellent job. I knew she was up to the task.”

Miller, from St. Martin, is currently a student in the MGCCC Web Development Technology program. She said she was thrilled to be asked to do the logo. “The first thing I did was research other chamber of commerce logos and determined that most were made like a seal or insignia, so I knew it needed to have that traditional look.  At the same time, I wanted it to be fresh and instantly recognizable as the George County Chamber of Commerce logo, which is why the GC is prominently placed inside the circle.” She said she played around with different designs until she got the one that she thought looked both traditional and very distinctive and original.

Balius said the Chamber Board is excited about the logo. “We are very pleased with how the logo looks,” she said. “Along with the new sign in front of our building, the logo helps give our organizational materials a fresh, professional look, and provides us with a very individual and quickly recognizable brand.”
