Hallie Nettles

Hallie Nettles, a 2016 graduate of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus, has been named a Lyceum Scholar at The University of Mississippi. Nettles is one of only 15 community college students to receive the award this year.

Nettles, of Vancleave, was also named a Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar in December. A double major in business and nursing, she was active in the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at the Jackson County Campus, serving as vice president of scholarship, and was a member of the campus Honors College.

To receive the highly competitive Lyceum Scholar Award, recipients must have a 3.0 GPA, 48 transferable community college hours (at the time of transfer), and an exemplary record of academic achievement, leadership and service. The Lyceum Scholarship was created to recognize some of the most outstanding community college transfer students across Mississippi. These students will receive full-time tuition for two years, which is an estimated value of more than $15,000.
