MGCCC JC Campus Bell Tower Dedication

MGCCC JC Campus rings in bell tower

The Bell Tower stands 32 feet tall and is located in the mall area of the campus.

The late Alfred F. Dantzler Jr. and Vallie Hughes Dantzler would’ve been proud of the brand new, 32-foot Bell Tower and Carillon named in their honor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus in Gautier. Thanks to a $200,000 donation from the Danztler family, a new centerpiece to the JC Campus’s mall area is now in place.

“The Dantzlers loved Gulf Coast and knew it was an important part of our community,” said Dr. Willis Lott, Gulf Coast president during dedication ceremonies June 18. “Their family also donated 160 acres of land during the formation of the Perkinston Campus nearly 100 years ago.”

In addition to the clock, the tower has speakers near the top which can be used as a public-address system to get out important information across campus. The carillon will also chime on the hour, while the tower and surrounding concrete area has been deemed a smoke-free area on campus. Accompanying the tower is a permanent plaque that bears the names of the donors.

"Those of us here today are here for the future of our college, and the tower is a piece of that future," said Moreno Jones, chair of the Gulf Coast Board of Trustees.
