The Scholars Bowl team from the Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is heading to the National Association of Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) after winning a recent competition in Orange, Texas.
After the NAQT Sectional Quiz Bowl Tournament on Jan. 24 at Lamar State College in Orange, Texas, the team qualified, along with 15 other teams in the nation, to compete at the NAQT Community College National Championship. The event is set for Feb. 28-29 at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla.
The team members include Zachary Mellen (team captain), Zuzana Caso, David Reed, Timothy Pinkston, Miran Kapidzic and Tara Busby. Coaches for the team are Dr. Trevor Smith and Sam Napier. In the Texas tournament, Mellen placed first overall in the individual competition, and David Reed placed fourth.
