Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College students in the Associate Degree Nursing program participated in “Mississippi Miracles,” a service project that was part of the Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nursing Student Association’s (MOSA) inaugural state-wide fund raiser. MOSA raised $3,800 for Mississippi’s only children’s hospital, the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson.
Each ADN program throughout the state was asked to hold a fund raiser of its choice to support the state-of-the-art facility that provides medical treatment to children from the state’s 82 counties. Gulf Coast students contributed to the fund through the local association. A ceremony was held to present a check to the hospital.
Jason Darden, MOSA state treasurer and a student at Gulf Coast’s Jackson County Campus in Gautier said “We are tremendously proud of Mississippi's ADN students for their participation in this fund raiser, and we hope to see it grow into one of the largest student-organized fund raisers in the state.”
Darden, who also serves as president of the JC Campus Student Nursing Organization, said MOSA offers membership to all Mississippi ADN programs and also has active members at Gulf Coast’s Jefferson Davis and Perkinston campuses. “I have had the opportunity to chair this event and have learned invaluable information through its organization. But I couldn't have done it without the MOSA Board of Directors as well as the students and faculty who participated.”
