Gayle Greene-Aguirre, social studies instructor and Honors College director at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus, recently won the regional faculty award for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). She accepted the award at the 40th Annual Community College Leadership Congress in San Francisco, Calif., October 8-10.
ACCT's Association Awards recognize the tremendous contributions made by trustees, chief executive officers, faculty members, professional board staff and equity programs. “The awards are among the most prestigious awards any community college, its trustees, presidents, faculty or staff member can receive,” said Arthur C. Anthonisen, ACCT chair and Orange County Community College (New York) trustee. “It is ACCT’s privilege to shine the spotlight on these outstanding leaders.”
Greene-Aguirre was joined at the conference by Dr. Mary Graham, vice president of the Perkinston Campus. “I felt extremely honored to be able to represent our college and our Southern region at such a prestigious conference,” Green-Aguirre said. “Even though I was the direct recipient of the award, I would like to think that I accepted it on behalf all of the outstanding instructors at Gulf Coast who work diligently to help a myriad of students pursue their academic dreams. It takes a dedicated team and not just one individual to make a significant impact on a local community.”
She added that the national conference was an incredible learning experience for her and the highlight of her career. “Receiving this award was the pinnacle of my career as an instructor, and I want to thank the Perk Campus for nominating me and Dr. Graham for supporting me with her presence at the ceremonial luncheon. It was truly a magical event.”
ACCT is a nonprofit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern more than 1,200 community, technical and junior colleges in the United States.
