Sixteen Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College students won during Phi Beta Lambda state competitions held in Columbus, Mississippi, March 25-27. During the conference, students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners are eligible to compete for national awards at the National Leadership Conference each summer.

First-place winners are Alyssa Miller of St. Martin and Maddie Groue of Ocean Springs, Desktop Publishing Team; Cabrina Oliver of D’Iberville and Joy Tyler of Wiggins, Business Sustainability Team; Chris Jones of St. Martin, Social Media Campaign; Jason Armstrong of Saucier, Website Design; Maria Ramirez of Abilene, Texas, Job Interview; and Tyler Johnson of Saucier, Mobile Application Development.

Second-place winners are Alexis Bounds of Biloxi, in both Business Law and Microeconomics categories; Alyssa Miller and Maddie Groue, Website Design Team; and Charla Boone of Moss Point and Christine Ladner of Poplarville, Integrated Marketing Campaign Team.

Third-place winners are Jeremy Farmer of Perkinston, Help Desk, and Tyler Johnson, Desktop Publishing.

Competitive events fall into three categories: individual, team and chapter. Individual and team events focus on skills useful in leadership and career development; chapter events recognize overall achievement and performance in chapter management and growth.
