MGCCC claims title at Laurel CC

LAUREL – Rain and cool temperatures failed to end the final round of the 2009 MACJC Golf Tournament at Laurel Country Club on Tuesday.

In the Division II portion of the tournament, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College was victorious with a two-day total of 612. The Bulldogs posted a 303-309. Northeast claimed second with a 320-313 – 633, while Hinds was third with a 322-313 – 635.

Nic Ishee of Gulf Coast was the tournament medalist posting back-to-back even-par scores of 72-72 for a 144 total. Blake Hatfield (75-74 -149) of Northeast and Richie Williams (73-76-149) of Gulf Coast finished tied for second. Rounding out the All-Tournament Team was Elliott Bingham of Hinds (76-74– 150), Will Goff of Holmes (78-73 – 151) and Grant Burns of Gulf Coast (79-74 – 153).

Goki Fukushima of Hinds matched Ishee’s low round on Tuesday with a 72.

There were 12 teams and 68 players in the tournament.

Next up on the MACJC schedule will be a trip to Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond on Feb. 22-23 for a tournament hosted by Hinds.
