MGCCC softball plays tough at fall USM tourney
September 27, 2008
Playing the big boys…or in this case, the big girls can be tough. On Sept. 27, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College took on The University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey College in fast pitch softball. The Lady Bulldogs dropped both games to the four-year colleges, losing 6-1 to Southern Miss and 5-2 to Carey. Gulf Coast softball coach Kenneth Long said these fall tournaments will help the young team gel before next spring, when the games count for real.
“I’m not one that likes moral victories, but I think we gained plenty from this experience,” Long said. I’m very proud of our team. We only committed one error in both games.”
Gulf Coast shortstop Megan Colvin had a solid 4-for-4 outing against Southern Miss.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Belhaven Oct. 3 for another fall series.
