About MGCCC Distance LearningWhat is Distance Learning? Distance learning is defined, for the purposes of accreditation review, as a formal educational process in which the majority of the instruction occurs when student and instructor are not in the same place. Distance learning affords learners the opportunity to take a course anytime and anywhere. Instruction may be synchronous or asynchronous. Distance education may employ correspondence study, audio, video, or computer technologies. Mission Statement To make a positive difference in people's lives every day! We welcome the responsibility to respond to the educational needs of our community by providing an outstanding learning environment supported by excellent products and services. Accreditation Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award associate degrees. Our accreditation was most recently reaffirmed in 1999. Delivery Methods: Online Online courses are courses that are offered through the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC) consortium. The consortium is comprised of 14 community colleges throughout Mississippi. These courses are offered entirely online, usually with no campus component, using the Blackboard and Desire2Learn platforms. All courses require at least one proctored exam that will require the learner to go to the campus or to a college approved location that can provide a proctor to take an exam. Hybrid Hybrid courses are a blending of the traditional face-to-face courses with an online component. In this format, you will complete a portion of the course online using the Desire2Learn platform and then only meet on campus as outlined in the college Tabloid. Web Enhanced Web enhanced classes are classes that meet regularly on campus, like the traditional face-to-face classes, but contain an online component. |
