Distance Learning Professional Development WorkshopsDesire2Learn (D2L) Overview This is a demonstration workshop providing an overview of the tools contained in the Desire2Learn content management system. (2 Hours) D2L Content Development Hands-On This workshop is a follow-up to the D2L Overview workshop. Participants are provided supervised hands-on practice with creating and modifying course content in D2L. Answers to questions asked during this workshop will be demonstrated to the entire group. Participants need to bring instructional content for the hands-on practice exercises. (Examples of instructional content could include; syllabus, PowerPoint presentations, lesson outlines, graphic image.) (2 Hours) D2L Gradebook and Dropbox The topics covered in this workshop include how to use the D2L Gradebook, Statistics, and Dropbox tools. (2 Hours) D2L Quizzes The topics covered in this workshop include how to create, modify, deploy, and remove tests and how to manage question libraries in D2L. (2 Hours) D2L Gradebook, Dropbox, and Quizzes Hands-On This workshop is a follow-up to the D2L Gradebook/Dropbox and Quizzes workshops. Participants are provided supervised hands-on practice using the Gradebook, Dropbox, and Quizzes tools in D2L. Answers asked during this workshop will be demonstrated to the entire group. (2 Hours) Introduction to Blackboard 6 The topics covered in this workshop will include an overview of the Blackboard e-learning platform, a description of all the tools available in Blackboard for the student and instructor, and hands-on practice adding instructional content such as lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, syllabi, etc. to the Blackboard e-learning platform. Participants need to bring instructional content for the hands-on practice exercises. (Examples of instructional content could include; syllabus, PowerPoint presentations, lesson outlines, graphic image.) (2 Hours) Blackboard Test Manager The topics covered in this workshop will include how to create, modify, and remove tests, surveys and question pools in Blackboard 6. (2 Hours) Blackboard Gradebook The topics covered in this workshop will include how to use the Gradebook and Course Statistics tools in Blackboard 6. (2 Hours) Customizing Your Blackboard Learners will be given hands-on experience on how to customize their Blackboard course site to enhance the learning process and to make navigation of the course site easier. (2 Hours) What's New in Blackboard Learners will be introduced to and provided hands-on experience using the newest enhancements in the Blackboard content management system. (1 - 2 Hours) Introduction to Online, Hybrid, and Web-Enhanced Learning The topics covered in this workshop will include an explanation of hybrid, web-enhanced, and online learning; the differences between the MSVCC and MGCCC content management systems; uses for the Blackboard server in hybrid and web-enhanced courses; and scheduling procedures for hybrid courses. (1 Hour) Building Online Learning Communities Learners will receive hands on practice using the Discussion Board, Virtual Classroom, and Blackboard Groups function to create a collaborative learning environment. (2 Hours) Managing the Online Process In this workshop, the participant will learn tips on how to better facilitate online classes. Topics covered in this session will include; management of users (adding, modifying, blocking access, and removing), management of the online Gradebook, using the Archive Course and Course Recycler utilities, using the digital drop box, etc. (2 Hours) Creating Instructional Content Using the Microsoft Word Learners will be provided hands-on experience on how to use Microsoft Word to create engaging instructional materials. Areas covered will be: document formatting, adding graphics, working with tables, creating hyperlinks, creating animations, and saving files in an html format. (2 Hours) Creating Instructional Content Using the Microsoft PowerPoint Learners will be provided hands-on experience on how to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create engaging instructional materials. Areas covered will be: formatting, adding graphics, working with tables, creating hyperlinks, creating animations, adding voice narration to a presentation, and saving files in an html format. (2 Hours) Using the MSVCC Enrollment Tool This workshop is designed for instructors teaching or considering teaching online classes and for people who register students in MSVCC. Some of the topics covered include how to: access MSVCC class rolls, update test proctor information, update syllabus information, check and update textbook information, look up information about a student, and how to change your MSVCC password. (1 Hour) Instructional Methods Class This workshop is designed for instructors teaching in either an online or traditional face-to-face classroom environment. The class is composed of a roundtable discussion of how to apply different instructional methodologies for different learning styles. (2 Hours) Alternate Ways to Assess Student Learning The purpose of this roundtable session is to provide an overview of alternative ways to assess learning. Alternative assessments measure how well a learner can apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes outlined in the course objectives. They require the learner to solve problems, complete projects, write reflectively, carry out experiments, conduct case analyses, etc. to demonstrate subject mastery. (2 Hours)
