Science Department SYLLABUS ADDENDUM
Withdrawals and Drops: Withdrawals are initiated by the student; Drops are initiated by the instructor. For specific information, refer to the Student Handbook. A properly completed withdrawal form shall become a part of the student's record. Refer to the college calendar for deadlines on withdrawal dates.
Student Grievance Procedures: The instructor has authority over all matters affecting conduct of classes including assignment of grades. Student performance may be evaluated based on written work and/or other performance standards as determined by the instructor. If a student has a complaint about classroom activities or grades given by an instructor, the student may appeal the faculty member's decision. In all cases the appeal process will assure due process for both the instructor and the student. If the issue cannot be resolved, the student must follow the grievance policy outlined in the Student Handbook.
Students With Disabilities: If you have a qualified disability and are requesting accommodation, you must notify the instructor immediately after the first class meeting. Students must follow the college policy in requesting special classroom accommodations. This information is available in the Student Handbook. It is the responsibility of the student to provide documentation and requests for accommodations to the Dean of Student Services.
Academic Integrity: The College has the responsibility for maintaining academic integrity so as to protect the quality of education on our campus. It is the responsibility of the student to refrain from violations of academic integrity, from conduct that may lead to suspicion of such violations, and from conduct that assists others in such violations. It is the responsibility of the instructor to establish and maintain a classroom environment that supports academic integrity. Desperation leads to poor decision making. Do not allow yourself to reach a point of desperation in a course or to think the risks of cheating are worth it. If you need some help in a course, seek assistance from your instructor or learning resource center staff. At its core, academic integrity requires honesty and a good work ethic.
Attendance Policy:
Students are allowed one hour of absence per semester hour that the course carries. The instructor will drop a student after the student misses more than the number of absences the course permits. Science courses with labs are four-hour credit courses, therefore four hours of absence are allowed. Each lecture hour and each two-hour laboratory count as one hour toward absences. Excessive tardiness will not be tolerated and will count toward absences. An instructor may drop a student after the student misses more than the number of absences per semester hours that the course carries. "Official college absences" are not counted as absences and are excused. Excused absences are permitted at the discretion of the instructor and are not counted as absences. Students may petition for reinstatement to the instructor and Dean of Academic and General Instruction as per instructions in the Student Handbook.
It is the responsibility of the student to get notes and assignments from his/her classmates. Students are encouraged not to miss exams.
