Finding articles in newspapers....

 The Sun Herald is available online for MGCCC students . Articles from 1994 through the present are available. In addition, NewsBank no provides full-text of the following newspapers:  the Clarion-Ledger, Hattiesburg American, Times-Picayune, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, The Denver Post, The Washington Post, The Miami Herald, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Honolulu Advertiser, Chicago Tribune, The Courier-Journal, The Boston Globe, The Detroit Free Press, The Kansas City Star, The Santa Fe New Mexican, The Charlotte Observer, The Plain Dealer, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Dallas Morning News, the Roanoke Times, and The Seattle Times.

The Newspaper Source database on EbscoHost  provides selected full text for over 180 regional U.S. newspapers, international newspapers, newswires, newspaper columns and other sources as well as indexing and abstracts for national newspapers.

 The best way to find any article in a newspaper is to use an index . The Jefferson Davis Library holds The New York Times Index from 1944 to the present and the Perkinston Campus holds it from 1964 to 1981. This index is a guide to the locations of articles that have appeared in The New York Times Newspaper. Citations are grouped alphabetically by appropriate subject, geographic, organizational and personal name headings. If a citation is needed for a specific event in history, look first for the Index for the year in which he event occurred, then alphabetically under the subject or name. For example, to find the articles that appeared in The New York Times when President Kennedy was assassinated, consult the 1963 Index under "Kennedy, John F." The date, section, page, and column number of each article is provided under a heading. A brief description is also given. The length of the article is indicated by (S) short, (M) medium, or (L) Long.

The MGCCC Libraries subscribe to The Sun Herald, USA Today, The Clarion-Ledger, the Wall Street Journal, and the Sunday issue of The New York Times. Back issues of The Sun Herald are available on microfilm at the three campus libraries. The Clarion-Ledger and the New York Times are available on microfilm at the Jefferson Davis and Jackson County Libraries.
