Computer Labs (Math and Computer Science Dept.)

 

1.The scheduled hours for both the open labs and teaching labs are:
      Monday  through Thursday - 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
      Friday                                - 8:00 a.m .to 4:30 p.m.
      Saturday and Sunday         - Closed.

2. These labs are a cell phone free area, please turn them to Silent or Vibrate.  We understand that there are times that the phone must be answered, but please respect the other people in the labs by taking your conversation out in the lobby or outside of the building.

3. Printing one copy of a document is allowed, multiple copies must be made at a copy machine.  Printing large documents (>15 pages) must be cleared by the lab personnel first, this is due to the fact that they halt or slow down printing for everyone else.

4. Both the Open Labs and the Teaching Labs are open to any student currently enrolled at any of the MGCCC Campuses. Random college ID checks will be performed.  If you are in the labs without your college ID you will be asked to leave until you can present your college ID.

5. With the exception of scheduled classes, all labs will be used on space-available basis. If a class is scheduled during a particular time period, any open seats in the lab( if the open labs are full) will be made available with the instructor's permission, on a first-come first serve basis, with the understanding that should the student's presence become disruptive, he/she will be asked to leave.

6. E-Mail access in labs( X-101&X-102) will be available for students / faculty/staff use only.

7. Both the open labs and teaching labs are open to any student currently enrolled at any MGCCC Campuses.

8. Priority usage in all labs will be as follows:
            (a)  Programming students ( those enrolled in VC++, COBOL, and VB.NET) will have priority use of any computer in X-103&X-104 that contains
                  the necessary compilers for the language in which they are programming.
            (b)  Students working on any required class work for any MGCCC class. Online Courses have a lower priority than courses physically taught on
                   any of the MGCCC campuses .
            (c)   Students checking and replying to their e-mail.(Note: If demand in the lab is high, there will be a 15- minute limited space on e-mail usage)
            (d)   The lowest priority will be given for internet use.(Note: If demand in the lab is high, there will also be a time placed on any internet searched for
                    class use).

9. If all the labs are filled to the capacity, the lab personnel will staff a waiting list and will call the first person on the list when a terminal becomes available. If the person fails to respond when his / her to one hour of computer use. At the end of his/her time period, the person may place his/her name back at the bottom of the list. If a waiting list is being utilized, each person will be limited to one hour of computer use.  At the end of his/her time period, the person may place his/her name back on the bottom of the list

10. Students may use any of the labs provided that lab is not in use, to work on assignments, personal projects (no games allowed unless required by the instructor), or term papers, but must remain seated and work in a quiet and orderly manner. Loud, boisterous behavior or profanity will not be tolerated.

11. Do not tamper with or abuse the equipment in the labs. If you do so, disciplinary action will be taken. Do not access the hard drive without permission, this means no saving files in My Documents or s name is called, he/she will forfeit his/her place on the list and will be moved to the bottom of the list.

13.Upon leaving, please return your computer to the college picture, replace your chair and clean up the are you have used. The lab personnel are here to help you, not clean after you.

14.Please understand that our lab personnel may not be familiar with the software, programming languages, course work or web site for the online classes and therefore may be unable to assist you. You have to return to your instructor for further assistance. Remember, the lab personnel's primary responsibility is to maintain the equipment.

15.The student is required to be polite and courteous to all lab personnel. If not he/she will be asked to leave. If there are any complaints or problems please contact the lab assistant and he/she will attempt to clear the situation.
