MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE
ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING DIVISION

READMISSION POLICY:

1. Readmission to the nursing program is available for NUR 1210, 2310 and 2410 only. Students who leave the nursing program at any time after passing NUR 1110 must apply for readmission to re-enter the program. Students who do not successfully complete NUR 1110 must apply as a new student.

2. Students are authorized two (2) readmissions to the program.

A. One authorized readmission can be used only to repeat either NUR 1210 or NUR 2310 one time.

B. The second authorized readmission can be used only to repeat NUR 2410 one time.

3. Readmission to NUR 1210, 2310 and 2410 is space available after students progressing from the previous class and first-time Mobility students are placed. Readmission is not guaranteed.

4. Priority for readmission is as follows:

A. First Priority: Students who, at the time they left the program, were passing both theory and clinical.

B. Second Priority: Students who, at the time they left the program, had less than an “78” average in theory but had demonstrated potential and safety in the clinical area (i.e. performing satisfactorily in clinical).

C. Third Priority: Students who, at the time they left the program, were performing unsatisfactorily in clinical. Readmission may be denied based upon the circumstances of the unsatisfactory clinical performance.

6. All applicants within a priority category are admitted before those in the next priority are considered.

7. Students not currently enrolled in the nursing program who are seeking readmission must submit a readmission application to their Campus ADN Department by the deadline prior to the semester they wish to enter. Deadline for the fall semester is May 1; deadline for the spring semester is December 1. Deadline for students currently enrolled in the nursing program is extended to 24 hours after receiving their course grade from their instructor. Applications submitted after the deadlines may be considered if space is available.

8. Students are eligible to apply for readmission within two years of the date of leaving the nursing program. After that date, the student will not be considered for readmission but is allowed to apply to start over in the program in NUR 1110 as a new student.

9. Students are allowed to apply for readmission to the ADN Program on one campus only for the same semester. Students not selected for readmission on one campus may subsequently file for consideration on another campus for that semester. Inter-campus readmission transfers are space available after the receiving campus’ own applicants are considered.

10. Selection of students for readmission is competitive, based on the students’ numeric theory average and clinical performance at the time they left the program.

11. Students not selected for readmission must file a new readmission application for each semester that they wish to be considered.

12. Students who are readmitted will follow the MGCCC catalog and the ADN requirements, policies, and procedures in effect at the time they re-enter the program.

13. Students who fail to complete the program in the allowed number of readmissions are allowed to apply to start over in the program in NUR 1110 as a new student. Calculation of the GPA for students’ applying to start over in NUR 1110 includes all completed courses listed in the ADN Curriculum Plan.

14. A student who has been dismissed from or who leaves a nursing or allied health program under adverse circumstances (e.g. unsafe clinical practice, cheating on tests or paper work, etc) may be denied admission to the nursing program.
