ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING DIVISION
TRANSFER POLICY:
- Transfer students are nursing students who have successfully completed nursing courses in another accredited RN school of nursing and who have been approved for admission to an advanced nursing course in the MGCCC ADN Program.
- Transfer students must earn at least 16 credit hours at MGCCC to graduate from MGCCC.
- Students applying for transfer to the MGCCC ADN Program must meet all the requirements for admission to MGCCC and to the ADN Program. See MGCCC Catalog for college and ADN admission requirements.
- Transfer applicants can apply to the MGCCC ADN Program on one MGCCC campus only. If qualified for admission but not selected because of space limits, the applicant may apply to the ADN Program on another MGCCC campus.
- ADN residency requirements apply to transfer applicants in the same manner as all students: all in-district applicants (residents of Harrison, Jackson, Stone and George Counties) are admitted before out-of district applicants (residents of Mississippi counties other than Harrison, Jackson, Stone and George Counties). Out-of-state residents are not admitted until all in-state residents are admitted.
- For prior nursing coursework to be approved for transfer credit, the coursework must have been successfully completed within the past two years and be equivalent in credit hours and content to MGCCC AD nursing courses.
- Calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA) for admission of transfer students to the ADN Program includes all academic support courses and nursing courses that are equivalent to the MGCCC ADN required courses regardless of whether or not passed.
- Transfer to the MGCCC ADN Program is space available at all three ADN program sites: Jackson County Campus, Jefferson Davis Campus, and Perkinston Campus
- Applicants with approved transfer credit who meet the college and ADN admission requirements are selected for admission based on individual merit according to ACT composite scores, GPA on degree-required courses, academic and clinical performance at their previous school, residency and space in the course.
- Transfer applicants who are not eligible for readmission to their previous school of nursing are not eligible for transfer to an advanced MGCCC ADN course but may apply for admission to NUR 1110 as a new student.
- Transfer students are subject to the same rules as incumbent MGCCC ADN students.
- Transfer students must submit required health forms and proof of current immunization against diphtheria-tetanus, rubella and measles and Hepatitis-B upon admission. Currency on immunization must be maintained throughout enrollment.
- Transfer students must comply with Mississippi Law regarding criminal background history.
- Transfer students must be proficient in the performance of the psychomotor skills required of all ADN students entering the nursing course to which they are admitted.
- Transfer students entering a MGCCC ADN advanced nursing course are required to demonstrate dosage calculation proficiency the same as all students entering that nursing course.
- Transfer students must provide proof of current AHA CPR Certification for Health Care Providers (or equivalent) upon admission. CPR certification must be maintained throughout enrollment.
- Transfer students must purchase and wear the required MGCCC ADN student uniform.
