Eleven students from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College won awards at the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) state competitions in Columbus, Mississippi, March 2-4. Competitors attend the college’s Perkinston Campus.

First-place winners are Austin Lee, of McHenry, and Peter Mersdorf, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Computer Animation (Team); Maddie Grou, of St. Martin, and Charda’ Boone, of Moss Point, Desktop Publishing (Team); and Austin Lee, of McHenry, and Peter Mersdorf, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Website Design (Team).

Second-place winners are Alexis Bounds, of Biloxi, Business Law; Christine Ladner, of Poplarville, and Katie Gorski, of Biloxi, Desktop Publishing (Team); and Christine Ladner, of Poplarville, and Katie Gorski, of Biloxi, Website Design (Team).

Additionally, Alexis Bounds, of Biloxi, was named the PBL 2016-2017 state president. Maddi Grou, of St. Martin, was named to the PBL Hall of Fame.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. is the largest career student organization in the world, helping over 250,000 members prepare for careers in business. The PBL Competitive Events program allows college students to compete in categories like technology, public speaking, business, finance, management, and more. Top winners receive trophies and cash from sponsored events and, after competing at the state level, are eligible to attend the national competitions held each summer.
