Getting Started With Online Courses…
So you’ve registered for an online course….now what? Here are the 5 things you need to do to get started with your online course.
Students are encouraged to attend an Orientation to Online Learning session. Sessions are voluntary, but highly recommended for new students. Click HERE for dates, times and locations of the upcoming sessions. Note: We offer “virtual” online orientations, so you don’t have to come to campus to participate.
MGCCC students are automatically provided with an official college email address and are required to use it for all eLearning classes (online, hybrid and web-enhanced).
It is important that you have a a good understanding of how suitable online courses are for you. Viewing our tips and completing the self-assessment quizzes will help ensure that you are adequately prepared to participate in online learning.
Smarter Measure is an assessment tool that is used to determine a student’s readiness for online course work. The survey asks questions on topics in the areas of computer use; self-motivation, organization skills, and learning preferences. In addition, your typing and on-screen reading speed and comprehension will be measured.
If you are enrolled in courses that are provided by other MSVCC schools (your instructor is located at a college other than MGCCC), you will need to check your MSVCC Student Profile to retrieve course and instructor information. Course information for MGCCC courses can be found in Web Services.
The student profile lists instructor contact information, textbook information, and other course information for NON-MGCCC courses. You will use your MGCCC Student Email address and the last four numbers of your GCID to access your MSVCC Student Profile. Note: All MGCCC Students are issued a Student identification number called a GCID. If you do not know your GCID, go to Web Services and follow the instructions to retrieve it. THE LAST FOUR NUMBERS OF YOUR GCID ARE REQUIRED FOR ACCESSING YOUR MSVCC STUDENT PROFILE.
Retrieve the login instructions prior to the start of the class. Once you know your username and password, click the Login to Courses link on the eLearning website to enter your courses on the first day of class.
