MGCCC is committed to a healthy learning environment!
As part of the initiatives outlined in Strategic Plan 2020, we made an institutional commitment to provide a healthy, sustainable learning environment for our students and employees. Key components of this commitment address a tobacco- and litter-free environment and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Tools and resources will be made available to all of our employees and students in support of these initiatives, including awareness, prevention and cessation programs. Interventions, including tobacco-cessation programs, will be provided utilizing the resources of the Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalitions.
In the spirit of the MGCCC motto “Making a positive difference…,” college administration and the Board of Trustees realized that a policy was needed that takes a holistic approach to the health and wellness of our employees, students and visitors. Happy, healthy employees and students make the college a better place and ensure the opportunities for success we strive to offer all our stakeholders.
Beginning January 1, 2013, MGCCC will join the nation’s 774 tobacco-free colleges and universities in the commitment to keep tobacco off all college campuses and centers. Additionally, all college locations will be committed to maintaining a litter-free environment to protect public health, safety and welfare. A healthy living component in the new policy encourages engagement in healthy lifestyle choices for physical, social and behavioral well-being.
Thank you for supporting these new initiatives and for helping maintain a healthy, clean environment for community residents and MGCCC students and employees. For more information about each of theses initiatives, please visit the links included on this page.
