Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held its annual Presidential Breakfast on April 19 at the Hospitality & Resort Management Center in Biloxi, with 41 high school seniors and their families attending the event. Harrison County Court Judge Robin Alfred Midcalf was the guest speaker.

Sponsored by Bacot/McCarty Foundation, the breakfast is held in honor of high school students within the college’s four-county district that have their scores of at least a 25 on the ACT sent to MGCCC. The group heard about student activities at MGCCC from Hannah Livingston, a current student at MGCCC Jefferson Davis Campus and a member of the Reflections Team. MGCCC president Dr. Mary S. Graham also spoke to the students about all the college has to offer them.

“We are certainly thrilled that these academically successful students from the high schools in our district joined us for the event,” said Dr. Graham. “These students are eligible for a full scholarship to Gulf Coast. And I wanted them to know that the core classes that they will take during their freshman and sophomore years at college are the same at MGCCC as they are at the university level and are just as rigorous. Plus, our instructor to student ratio is much lower, meaning students are in much, much smaller classes.”

Students attending the event were also encouraged to visit MGCCC campuses and centers, visit programs and classes and speak to college students, faculty and personnel about what there is to offer at the college. “MGCCC is their community college,” Graham said. “We want to have the opportunity to help them succeed in their college careers and in life.”
