MGCCC instructor chosen as state representative for TYCA Southeast

Gaye Winter (6819)Dr. Gaye Winter, Language Arts instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus, was chosen as the Mississippi State Representative for the Two Year College Association (TYCA) Southeast Chapter.  She will serve in this capacity until 2017. TYCA is affiliated with the National Council Teachers of English (NCTE) and TYCA National.

The Southeast Chapter of TYCA consists of the following states:  Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.  The mission and goals of the Two Year College Association include defining and exploring issues relevant to the improvement of the teaching of English in all community colleges in the region and encouraging studies and research in the teaching of English in the two-year college.

Mississippi will host the 50th Anniversary Conference of TYCA in Jackson February 19 -21, 2015.

 

Kathy McAdams is an award-winning journalist who has worked at weekly newspapers in Mississippi and the Press-Register in Mobile, Ala. A native of Gulfport, McAdams attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, William Carey University, the University of South Alabama and The University of Southern Mississippi. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and journalism and a master's degree in education and English. She has worked at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College since 2005.
