An Opportunity for MGCCC Students to Learn About Transferring to USM

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will host University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle fans and employees for the MGCCC home football game on Thursday, October 5, at A.L. May Memorial Stadium in Perkinston. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. against the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans.

The University of Southern Mississippi and MGCCC have a long-standing history of partnerships with one another,

said Dr. Mary S. Graham, MGCCC president. “Not only do we have outstanding articulation agreements with them for things like the Honors College and Film Studies Pathway, we also work closely with them on a variety of projects. And since nearly 70 percent of MGCCC students plan to transfer to a university, University Nights like tonight gives them the chance to explore what our partner institutions have to offer.”

USM leaders will be in attendance, including University President Rodney D. Bennett; Vice President for the Gulf Park Campus Dr. Steven G. Miller; Vice Provost for the Gulf Park Campus Dr. Casey Maugh Funderburk; and Assistant Vice President and Dean of Admissions, Kate Howard. College representatives and admission recruiters will be on hand to meet with prospective students. USM will also have a number of giveaways, including a special event T-shirt.

“Our ‘Start in the Blue, Stay in the Gold’ special event T-shirt highlights our important relationship with MGCCC. Our participation in the football night is a wonderful way to highlight the long-standing relationship between our institutions, ensuring a successful transition for students into the Southern Miss family,” said Dr. Casey Maugh Funderburk, Vice Provost for the Gulf Park campus.

MGCCC hosted University Nights last year in the newly renovated stadium at the Perkinston Campus. This year, more universities have been included in the events.

Besides USM Night, other University Nights held this year included Mississippi State University and Alcorn State University. The University of Mississippi Night is scheduled for October 12.
